SO YOU MAY BE AN ALCOHOLIC; A NEWCOMER ASKS; information for the newcomer to help answer your questions https://www.aa.org/assets/en_US/p-24_anewcomerask.pdf

SUGGESTIONS the following suggestions are offered as a simple way to start exploring ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS. Each suggestion below provides a simple What, Why and Where explanation about each suggestion.

90 MEETINGS IN 90 DAYS;

  • WHAT’S a MEETING? A local gathering of fellow alcoholics who share their experience,strength and hope by helping others stay sober.

  • WHY do I need to go to meetings? WE do not do this alone. Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

  • HOW do I get to ONLINE MEETINGS and AROUND THE WORLD?

GET A SPONSOR:

  • WHAT’S a SPONSOR? The process of sponsorship is this: An alcoholic who has made some progress in the recovery program shares that experience on a continuous, individual basis with another alcoholic who is attempting to attain or maintain sobriety through A.A.

  • WHY do I need one? So WE select an A.A. member with whom we can feel comfortable, someone with whom we can talk freely and confidentially, and we ask that person to be our sponsor who can share their experience, strength and hope with the newcomer. And in the process, practice Step 12, in order to stay sober.

  • HOW do I get a sponsor? Please look in the chat for names of people willing to sponsor.

GET A BIG BOOK:

○ WHAT’S A BIG BOOK? It is a book written and edited by the first 100 men and women who got sober. The Big Book sets forth the basic principles of the recovery program in the first 164 pages, followed by personal stories describing what it was like, how one got here, and what it is like now.

Though the book is actually entitled, Alcoholics Anonymous, as is our fellowship, Alcoholic Anonymous members over the years, have fondly referred to it as ‘The Big Book of Alcoholic Anonymous’ or simply, the ‘Big Book’.
